Continuing Medical Education (CME)

State of Oklahoma CME

The State of Oklahoma Requires 20 hours of Category I CME to be earned and logged each year between January 1st and December 31st.  At least one of the twenty hours of Category I CME shall be earned during the same time period concerning the topic of substance abuse.

The CME hours shall be logged and reported to the Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision (OSBMLS) on an annual basis by the Oklahoma Academy of Physician Assistants (OAPA).

Physician Assistants registering for, and attending at least 20 hours at the annual OAPA Fall CME conference will have their CME automatically logged with the OSBMLS.  The one hour CME on substance abuse is provided during the conference.

If you register for the Fall CME, but attend less than 20 hours, a separate logging form must be submitted to the OAPA.

Physician Assistants who do not attend the OAPA Fall CME must submit a completed logging form to the OAPA by January 31st.

Physician Assistants who have not met the CME requirement on substance abuse can obtain a recording of the lecture presented at the Fall conference by completing and submitting the order form to the OAPA.

OAPA members may log their CME hours free of charge since this is a benefit included in their annual membership dues.  Non-members must prepay $135.00 to the OAPA for this service when submitting their hours for logging.

Oklahoma does not require logging of Category II hours.

All PAs must self-log their hours with the NCCPA for maintenance of certification at www.NCCPA.net.

How do I know it's Category I?

As a basic rule of thumb, if you must pay for the educational experience, it's Category I.  Also, Category I CME provides a certificate of completion for the attendee that contains a statement indicating who is authorizing approval for Category I and the number of hours approved.  For a formal definition of Category I, consult the AAPA at www.aapa.org or the NCCPA at www.nccpa.net.
