Types of Medical Malpractice Insurance Policies (click here)

We are getting lots of calls concerning malpractice insurance.

Occurrence Policies cover you forever...it's the best type of insurance. Some examples of carriers are:

CMF Group (endorsed by AAPA, click here)

Claims Made Policies cover you only for the time you're paying premiums.  Stop paying premiums and you, or your former employer, will have to purchase "tail coverage"...to cover any claim resulting from someone you saw while you were covered.  Most policies now are claims made...including PLICO.  The "tail" is usually 2-3 times the annual premium, so it's not a minor point...especially since the PA/doc usually gets stuck with paying it (not the former employer).  If possible, get in your contract something like...if I stay less than one year I'll pay the entire tail, if I stay 1 year, I pay 75% and you pay 25%, 2 years it's 50/50, 3 yrs I pay 25% you pay 75% and 4 or more years, you (the employer) pays 100%.
