Call to Action 3.11.2024

House Bill 3965, our PA independent practice bill, is set to be heard on the House floor this week either on Wednesday or Thursday.

PLEASE take a moment to call or email your State House member TODAY and ask them to please vote YES on HB 3965 by Rep. McEntire.

*If you do not know who your State House member is, go to and type your address/city/zip code and click “search” in the area on the bottom right hand corner.  “Click on” the picture of your State House member and that will take you to their contact information.

When you call or email, do the following:

  • Say your name and that you’re a Physician Assistant who practices in (state location(s);
  • Say that House Bill 3965 by Rep. McEntire is scheduled to be heard on the House floor this week either on Wednesday or Thursday;
  • Politely ask the representative PLEASE VOTE YES to advance HB 3965;
  • Here’s what the bill does:
  • THE MAIN POINT:  This bill levels the playing field for PAs to compete for jobs with other advanced practice providers and is very similar to the nurse practitioner legislation already passed.
  • Specifically:  It allows a PA to practice without the current supervision requirements after they complete 6,240 hours post-graduate clinical practice experience and report those to the Oklahoma Medical Board.  This is equivalent to 3 full-time years of practice.
  • PAs who practice without supervision are restricted to prescribing Schedule III-V drugs only.
  • PAs who choose to practice with a physician agreement are permitted to prescribe Schedules II-V drugs.  This must be outlined in the Practice Agreement with the PA’s physician and filed with the Oklahoma Medical Board.
  • Thank the Representative or their assistant for taking your call (or reading your email) and, again, respectfully request their YES vote.

That’s it.  Very clean and simple.  Don’t hesitate to let Susan Thomas or me know if you have any questions.  THANKS, AS ALWAYS, FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT AND ENGAGEMENT.
