
Dr. David Lee Gordon serves as Professor and Vice Chair of Education for the Department of Neurology at the University of Oklahoma (OU). He served as OU Neurology department chair for over 16 years from 2007 to 2023. He received his medical degree from the University of Miami, completed neurology residency at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City, and completed a cerebrovascular diseases fellowship at the University of Iowa.
An accomplished clinician and educator, he has special interest and expertise in stroke, migraine, and healthcare education. He has been elected to “Best” or “Top” Doctors in America on multiple occasions, received the Outstanding Physician Award from the Mississippi quality-improvement organization in 1999, and received the American Heart Association’s national Award of Meritorious Achievement in 2000. He has received numerous teaching awards from medical students, resident physicians, and various organizations, including the OU College of Medicine S.L. Young Master Teacher Award in 2011, the American Academy of Neurology Clerkship Directors Teaching Award in 2014, and the American Neurological Association Distinguished Neurology Teacher Award in 2016.

Objectives:
- State a practical definition of migraine as a brain disorder.
- Identify when neurologic symptoms such as visual disturbance, tingling, & vertigo are due to migraine.
- Identify when gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, heartburn, abdominal pain, diarrhea, & constipation are due to migraine.
- Identify when cardiovascular symptoms such as palpitations, chest pain, near syncope, & syncope are due to migraine.
- Identify when sinus congestion & runny nose are due to migraine.
- Describe the system-based, cultural, & personal barriers to diagnosing migraine accurately.
