Providing Advocacy for the Profession
PA Day at the Capitol is an annual event held in the Spring, generally in April, to bring PAs and PA students together at the Oklahoma State Capitol building to provide advocacy for the profession. Lunch is provided prior to meeting at the capitol as well as briefing on current issues and how to engage with legislators. PAs and PA students meet in groups and disperse to have valuable conversations with legislators and each other. It is a productive and valuable day each year.
Unfortunately, we were unable to have our normal experience in 2020 due to the capitol renovations and covid-19. However, just prior to the pandemic, the OAPA sponsored a wonderful after-hours event downtown where legislators were invited to come for appetizers, drinks, and meaningful conversation. The history of the PA Profession traveling exhibit was featured as a wonderful bonus. There was a large turn-out of PAs and legislators and a great time was had by all.
In 2022 we continued the new tradition of an after-hours social event downtown with legislators with another fantastic turn-out!
